Mom if you’re reading this. Please don’t.
I’ll have to go back to the year 2011 to describe this incident.
I was taking my board exams of 10th grade in March. My mom would always prepare lunch in the morning for me to eat after the exam since the school in which I was taking the exam was located at a distance and it would take around 2 hours or so to reach home after the exam.
This one day, after my Social Studies exam, I sat in my school bus, my stomach was yelling for food and as I opened my lunch box, the unusual had happened. It was UPMA!!!! UPMA from my MA.
I always disliked upma. Now, even my stomach stopped yelling for food because it didn’t want to feed itself with my ma’s upma.
I came back home, ate something else and while cleaning the dishes, my mom asked me for the lunch box as she had to clean it up. Stupid I was, scared to death that I’ll be scolded for not finishing my lunch, I simply dumped the upma in my bag and tricked my mom into thinking that I have finished it.
We had 3 days preparatory leave before the last exam. And that stupid upma was still in my bag. A night before my exam, after revising everything, I slept around 10pm. At around 12 in the night, that upma started stinking and my mom confused, woke my sister up, that from where the smell was actually coming. Finally, when the mystery was solved, my crazy mother didn’t even bother that it’s her daughter’s ‘life changing’ exam tomorrow and literally beat me up while I was asleep! Perplexed I woke up and got to know that my mom knows my ‘dirty’ secret. I was being thrashed from the broom (jhadu in Hindi) and from rolling pin (belan in Hindi) for one, not finishing my food and second, for wasting it. After an hour of my beating session came to end, I was ordered to go to the building’s dustbin and throw the damn rotten upma. I was made to wash my school bag while my mother was watching every move of mine, if I was washing it properly or not. At that time, while my other classmates were sleeping or studying for the board exam, I was cleaning my bag!
It was Science exam the next day and even while I was going to take the exam, I was literally crying from all the thrashing that happened last night. It was a lesson of lifetime. Even today, before leaving anything on my plate, I think twice.
This is the story of my ‘crazy mother’.
By the way, I scored 91/100 in that exam.
